Whatever your current level of diving, Specialty Courses offer a chance to learn new skills then practice and apply them so that you become a specialist among divers. The most popular specialties are described below:

ENRICHED AIR (NITROX) SPECIALTY

Diving with enriched air nitrox gives you more no decompression dive time. This means more time underwater, especially on repetitive scuba dives. It's no surprise that this is PADI’s most popular specialty diving course.

WRECK DIVER SPECIALTY

Most divers find wrecked ships, airplanes and even automobiles fascinating because they are exciting to explore and are usually teeming with aquatic life. This course teaches you how to engage in rewarding and responsible wreck diving. Techniques include navigating a wreck, mapping areas, and using lights and reels on a wreck.

AWARE SHARK CONSERVATION DISTINCTIVE SPECIALTY

Sharks are crucial to marine ecosystems. They maintain a balance in populations of prey species and keep the ocean healthy by removing ill or diseased animals. They are an important resource supporting local economies, for example as an attraction to dive tourists. But sharks are in a global decline. The AWARE Coral Reef Conservation Specialty Course describes how coral reefs function and why they are so important. PROJECT AWARE SPECIALTY

The Project AWARE Specialty program is designed to familiarize people with the plight of aquatic ecosystems around the world. It also describes what individuals can do to help protect aquatic resources. The course covers the role Project AWARE Foundation plays in protecting aquatic ecosystems worldwide, the importance and the interdependent nature of aquatic ecosystems, the pertinent issues concerning the environmental status of underwater environments such as pollution, fisheries and coastal zone management, and provides information needed to take specific actions to help conserve underwater environments. For certified divers, optional Dive Against Debris training and dive can be included.

PADI EMERGENCY OXYGEN PROVIDER

In this course you will learn how to recognize diving illnesses treatable by emergency oxygen, properly setup equipment and administer emergency oxygen. After earning this specialty you will be prepared and ready to help a fellow diver should the need arise. You will also receive a reference manual to keep after the course.
